Highlights
President Wanda Taylor welcomed more than 225 UAHPERD members to the 2005 convention held on March 12, 2005 at Brigham Young University. Keynote speaker Dr. Joanne Owens-Nauslar, Director of Corporate and Community Relations for Walk4Life Inc. challenged the members to "get moving".
Dr. Owens-Nauslar candidly and humorously promoted such concepts as:
- The benefits of living in a Peak Perfomance Body.
- You don´t stop exercising because you grow old; you grow old because you stop exercising.
- Secure your own mask first: Be a great role model for children and youth.
- A reality check – how active are you? Pedometers are a great awareness tool to measure your activity levels.
- Future Professionals – Drop the future, you are professionals now.
Convention sessions were conducted in physical education and dance activities, fitness and wellness, theory of coaching various sports, current health issues, martial arts, and administration of school programs. Presenters at the sessions were professionals with special skills and knowledge from elementary and secondary schools, colleges and universities throughout the state.
